ONCLEAN CAN REMOVE RESOURCES OF ANOTHER INSTANCE AND ACCIDENTALLY BRING THIS WRONG INSTANCE DOWN |

When onclean is run on an instance that is currently not running
and one or more other instances are running on the same server
you may accidentally bring the wrong instance down with it.
The trace left in the instance message log would be
Assert Failed: semop: errno = 43

Assert Failed: semop: errno = 43
The errno = 43 is meaning "Identifier removed" (EIDRM).
There might be other reasons for that this semaphore got
removed, but an "onclean -k" could be one of them.
One possible verification would be to use "onclean -p". With the
option "-p" the content of the
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/.conf.$INFORMIXSERVER file will be printed and
no other action will be done by onclean.
This .conf file contains information about various resources the
Informix instance achieved and is written when the instance is
started.
One piece of information in this file is the semaphore id, for
example:
7 3 -32767 sema 13533185
This means the instance is using semaphore 13533185.
When you do this for all instances on the system you should be
able to ensure that the onclean -k you want to attempt it not
picking a semaphore id that is in use by another running
instance. |
