AN OLD NON-BIG CHUNK MADE EXTENSIBLE CAN GROW HUGE WITHOUT SWITCHING TO BIG-CHUNK MODE, CAUSING PAGE HEADER CORRUPTIONS
product: | |
INFORMIX SERVER / 5725A3900 / C10 - IDS 12.10
Problem description: | |
A chunk inherited from a a pre-v10.00 life of an instance is allowed to be made extentable and then can grow without limit. If this chunk never had been turned into a 'big' chunk, it will remain non-big even though growing way beyond the 1mio (1024*1024) pages limit supported by non-big chunk page headers. E.g.: IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC11 -- On-Line -- Up 00:20:59 -- 56208 Kbytes Dbspaces address number flags fchunk nchunks pgsize flags owner name 700000020358028 1 0x20001 1 1 4096 N A informix rootdbs 70000002047cc28 2 0x20001 2 1 4096 N A informix datadbs 2 active, 2047 maximum Chunks address chunk/dbs offset size free bpages flags pathname 700000020358268 1 1 0 75000 63273 PO---D /chunks/rootchunk 7000000503b0028 2 2 0 2499287 0 PO--ED /chunks/datachunk 2 active, 2047 maximum Typically all index and data pages continue to function and be usable normally (even though carrying bad page addresses. Where the problem surfaces typially is with bfcheck assersions on 'chunk free list' pages (should carry flag 8, but turn out to have different flags - in reallity that's not even true, only such page might be read from wrong location.) The real danger of this problem will arise with a restore of such dbspace.
