CAN NOT UPDATE EXISTING DB2 V10.5 GA/FP1 PURESCALE INSTANCE USING SIMPLIFIED METHOD FROM UNIVERSAL FIX PACK IMAGE |

| Problem description: |
To update DB2 server to a higher fixpack level, there are two
types of DB2 Fixpack images 'DB2 Universal Fix Pack and DB2
Server Fix Pack ' are available. Users need to Download DB2
Server Fix Packs by version for DB2 for Linux, UNIX and
Windows, if they are using.
By this problem, users can not update existing DB2 V10.5 GA/FP1
purescale instance using Universal Fix Pack image by Online Fix
Pack update method or by simplified method Offline FixPack
update.
An example, applying V10.5FP1 on top of V10.5 GA using
installfixpack failed with following error and log file
contains only the following message at the very begining, then
one of the reason could this problem:
DB2 Setup log file started at: Wed Oct 23 xxxxxx

Operating system information: AIX 7.1
DBI1501E An internal error was encountered.
Explanation:
An error was detected while performing an internal
operation.
User response:
Verify that the file system on which the file resides is
not damaged.
If the problem persists, contact IBM Support with the
following information:
1. Message number
2. Internal error message description
3. Problem description
There is a programming error on DB2 V10.5 FP1/FP2, any special
build on top of DB2 V10.5/V10.5FP1/V10.5 FP2 Universal Fix
Pack images and we may not be able to use Universal Fix Pack
image to update existing DB2 using simplified method of
installFixpack. The problem only exists on Universal Fix Pack.
There is no problem on Server Fix Pack. |
