When issuing db2start/db2stop you might get SQl1042C when environment variable DB2PATH is set as follows: export DB2PATH=$DB2DIR Example: [db2inst1t@test1 sqllib]$ echo $DB2DIR /opt/ibm/db2/V9.7FP9a [db2inst1t@test1 sqllib]$ export DB2PATH=$DB2DIR [db2inst1t@test1 sqllib]$ echo $DB2DIR /opt/ibm/db2/V9.7FP9a [db2inst1t@test1 sqllib]$ db2start SQL1042C An unexpected system error occurred.
