A new technology-surge comes upon IT-distributors, companies and customers. Cost-efficient sensors enable a cheap recording of measuring data in all areas of the real world. Our whole technical environment becomes increasingly measurable and analyzable, both in companies and public areas, as well as in private households.

Informix go’s NoSQL

With the in September 2013 released version 12.10.xC2 Informix has now JSON compatible NoSQL functionality available. With that the IBM pushed the door to BigData once more wider open for Informix.

Now a third important building block is added to Warehouse Accelerator and TimeSeries functionality: The from relational scheme deviating storage and converting of data in the for webapplications widely spread Java Script Object Notation (JSON).

Therefor the set of native datatypes for Informix was expanded by JSON, respectively by the binary equivalent BSON. During the expansion of the scope of functions the compatibility to the widest spread NoSQL database - MongoDB - was respected, so that MongoDB applications can also be run mostly directly with Informix.

The first noteworthy introduction of NosQL for Informix occured in the end of September in the "Chat with the lab webcast" by Jerry Keesee and John Miller. The topic is still barely present in the web. The Informix NoSQL presentation of the IBM offers a good entrance and explains the basic terms and relations.

Abkündigung der FUSSSI Lizenzierung für Informix Produkte und Migration auf AUSI Lizenzen.

IBM Informix Software withdrawal selected products

Effective November 12, 2013 , IBM will withdraw from marketing the following products licensed under the IBM nternational Program License Agreement. A replacement product and availability date is listed if one is available.

Informix Choice Edition is being discontinued. Clients with existing Informix Choice Edition entitlements will have their entitlements automatically migrated to Informix Growth Edition. Clients requiring a migration to an product should contact their renewal representative.

The Floating User Single Session Single Install (FUSI) licensing metric is being discontinued. Clients with existing entitlements based on the FUSI metric will automatically be converted to the Authorized User Single Install (AUSI) metric at the rate of two AUSI's per FUSI. Clients requiring a migration to an alternate metric or product should contact their renewal representative.

The JDBC driver is being discontinued as a standalone product. Clients with existing entitlements for the JDBC driver will be automatically migrated to the Client SDK, which now includes the JDBC driver.
