Vote now for an upgrade of the editions!

The limitations of the smaller Informix editions have long been outdated and an obstacle to the future-oriented use of Informix. As part of Informix Technology Days 2024, a call was made to product management to review and upgrade the limits. There has been no response from IBM to date.

Details of the feature request for upgrading the editions

While the overall structure of the editions and their key differentiations should remain the same, the following adjustments are necessary, particularly in comparison to competitor products:

  • Workgroup Edition: Increase the memory limit from 32 GB to 128 GB.
  • Express Edition: Increase the memory limit from 8 GB to 16 GB.
  • Innovator-C Edition: Allow an HDR Secondary.
The license-free edition is often used for testing and development systems. To be able to set up realistic scenarios here, the authorization of an HDR Secondary is a prerequisite in many cases.
  • For all editions: Allow distributed SQL/NoSQL queries.
This is an important point for many Informix customers from small and medium enterprises.
  • For all editions: Allow partitioning.
With the introduction of IDS 15, the storage possibilities within an instance have become virtually unlimited. However, the migration to the new major release with the changed storage structures will only arrive productively for many customers in two or three years. It is necessary to temporarily allow the partitioning, which is obsolete with IDS 15, also for the 12 and 14 versions of Informix.

The more Informix users vote for this feature request, the higher it moves up in IBM's prioritization!
