SPORADIC 908 ERRORS MAY OCCUR WHEN MULTIPLE INFORMIX SERVERS EXECUTE REMOTE SQL ON A CENTRAL SERVER

| Problem description: |
When two or more IDS instances execute remote SQL on a central
IDS server the potential exists for the connection attempt from
at least one of the client servers to hang and then timeout with
a 908 error. A subsequent connection attempt will frequently
succeed.
An example error:
908: Attempt to connect to database server (remoteifxsvr,
conerr=-27001, oserr=0) failed.
For the time period that the client server is trying to connect
the command onstat -u on the remote server will show a thread
waiting on a transaction:

The stack for the associated srvinfx thread will show:

This problem results from the local IDS instances using the same
values for DBSERVERNAME and SERVERNUM. One workaround is to
ensure each IDS instance uses a unique combination of these two
parameters. |
