INFORMIX SERVER / 5725A3900 / E10 - 

Usign BACKUP_FILTER / RESTORE_FILTER, a cold restore might show
a "backup and restore filter" error when restoring the reserved
pages:

bar_act.log would contain something like this:

 Begin reserved pages read (level 0 of rootdbs, Storage Manager
copy ID: Hi Lo).
 Filter closed.
 (-43082) Writing to backup and restore filter failed with error
.
 Completed reserved pages read (level 0 of rootdbs).

BAR_DEBUG 5 tracing would contain a trace

 filter TAPEIO write_to_filter: Write failed on parent's output
pipe. errno = 32.

with errno 32 being EPIPE.

The restore either would proceed with rootdbs restore, with
other "child process for the backup and restore filter is
terminating
with exit code 0." messages, so no more problems, yet ultimately
fail with

 (-43140) Due to the previous error, logical restore will not be
attempted.
 /opt/informix/IBM/14.10.FC2/bin/onbar_d complete, returning 255
(0xff)

leaving the server down and not even the rootdbs in usable
state:

  Recovery Mode
  Physical Restore of rootdbs started.

  Aborting physical restore of ROOT DBSpace
  Aborted by client.


Or it would carry on and seemingly have forgotten about the
error, and the restore would ultimately succeed.
