SPECTRUM PROTECT SNAPSHOT VERSION 8.1.6.1 ON LINUX FAILS TO FREEZE FILESYSTEMS AND TERMINATES WITH FMM1200E

| Problem description: |
IBM Spectrum Protect Snapshot version 8.1.6.1 running on Linux
for Db2, Oracle, SAP on Oracle or Custom Applications fails to
freeze filesystems on Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 6 or 7
and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server version 11 or 12. The following
error message could be shown:
09:31:06 FMM1200E Profile parameter 'LVM_FREEZE_THAW' is set to
YES but freeze/thaw is not supported by the underlying file
system.
09:31:06 FMM9300E Additional support information: Aborting
'send' operation. See previous error.
09:31:06 FMM1255E The process cannot continue. Reverting
changes.
09:31:06 FMM9224E The operation will be aborted. Check for other
error messages in the log files.
If TRACE is enabled in the profile then the acsgen trace file
will erroneously show that filesystem freeze is not supported:

| Local Fix: |
The only local fix is to disable freeze/thaw in the IBM Spectrum
Protect Snapshot profile by setting LVM_FREEZE_THAW to NO. This
may result in a so called 'forced mount' operation during a
snapshot backup operation where the filesystem consistency will
be verified by mounting the snapshot backup on a backup system. |
